PDFReader in GdPicture.Net 8

Postby JNewhouse » Sun Jul 10, 2011 4:38 am

Hello Loic,
I'm looking at the reference guide trying to get information on the PDFReader class that existed in GdPicture 7, but I cannot find this class. Is it still available in GdPicture 8?

Thanks,
Jean-Claude

Hi Jean Claude,

The PdfReder[...] methods have been deprecated and moved to the GdPciturePDF class which is behind the GdPicturePDF Plugin.
If you own a V7 license that you upgrade to V8, you will be able to use parts of the GdPicturePDF that was includes in the V7 + some new features.
New customers has to acquire the Plugin to use any of its functions.

Let me know if you need more information.

Kind regards,

Loïc

Hi Loic,
thanks for the speedy response. We are still writing our application. We started (slowly) using version 7, but switched to version 8 just last week. Based on sample files from your website we were planning to use the PDFReader function. With version 8, is there a better way without using the legacy code??

For our requirements, we need to read a PDF and copy pages to new PDF files. So, the initial PDF may have 10 pages and we will split it up into say, 5 2-page PDF's.

The PDFReader sounded perfect for this because we wouldn't have to instaniate multiple picture objects. I have not written this particular code yet, though so if there is a better, more efficient way to do this in version 8, can you let me know?

Thanks,

Jean-Claude

Hi Loic,
I haven't gotten a response yet regarding my question, and I don't really understand.

Since I upgraded to version 8 from version 7, i understand i can use the plugin to use the PDFReader functionality, but is this the optimal way or was this added for backwards compatability?
If you recommend using the PDFReader as the best way to read one PDF and write to another at the same time, I will do that, however if there is a better way in version 8, please let me know so I can look into it.

Thanks As Always,
Jean-Claude

Hi JC,

Sorry, I don't understand the question:

but is this the optimal way or was this added for backwards compatability?

If you recommend using the PDFReader as the best way to read one PDF and write to another at the same time

Yes this is definitively the best way. In fact, this is the only one way in V8.

Let me know if you need more information.

Loïc

Hi Loic,
RE: You don't understand my question
in your previous reponse, you said the PDFReader was deprecated and moved into the plugin. so it sounded to me like it was no longer the optimal way to perform a process that involves reading a PDF file and splitting it's contents into multiple new pdf files. In my testing, the PDFReader worked really well, so i was asking if there was a different method to use in V8.

From your last response, it sounds like using the PDFReader in the plugin is the recommended way to do this.

I haven't found much in the way of sample V8 code, if you do have any can you point me to it?

Thanks as always!

Hi,

OK. As I said, all PDFReader methods have been moved to the GdPicturePDF class. And now this is the unique (best is you prefer) way to handle PDF document for analyzing & editing purposes.

You will be able to find some code snippet about the PDFPligin in the dedicated forum: pdf/
If you need a particular snippet, just create a thread on this forum.

Kind regards,

Loïc
