Calculating and count areas in an image

Hi,
I'm working on a solution, where I need to calcute the size of some areas in an image, and how many areas there is in the image.

For that I need some filters or functions that:

* make a threshold on the image with the filter
* remove the background.
* Find and count the area(s)
* Calculate the total size of the areas

Do have some suggestion for the approach with you SDK

Hello,

I need you to specify somethings like:
- By areas, do you mean black objects on a binary images?
- Is there user interference or not?

It would also be useful if you could attach an image to help us better understand your needs.
