gdpicturepro.ocx 3.x and Vista/Win 7

Postby Chico » Fri Nov 13, 2009 11:34 am

Hi there,

A few years ago I made a programm using gdpicturepro.ocx Version 3.1.0.2 und the
GDIPLUS.DLL Version 5.2.6001.22319
The Programm is Part of a package of a special professional Software.
Unfortunately our customers use more and more Vista or Windows 7
computers and the programm doesn't work anymore. The Error message
says that the gdpicturepro.ocx or one of its parts is not correctly
installed.
I tried to register the OCX as Administrator under Win 7 prof without
any success. I also tried to run the whole Programm in compatability
mode for Windows XP, also no success.
It would be a great desaster if there is no chance to install the
Progamm under newer Windows Versions! There were hundreds of hours of
development for it...

So, if possible, please give me some tips what i can do

Best regards
Chico

Hi,

Do you have more details ?
How did pour process ?
Do you have a message of error ?

I can suggest you to have a look on the FAQ at: http://www.gdpicture.com/faq.php#G9
Also, the first page of the reference guide explains how to redistribute the toolkit. See: http://guides.gdpicture.com/v5/gdpictur ... index.html

Hi Loic,

I tried to register it as adminstrator as you described in your FAQ. The regsvr32 replied that the OCX was registered successfully. I even unregistered it and registered again (for the case that the setup programm didn'nt do it well). But although it seems to be registered the programm don't work. The error message is identically as if it wasn'nt registered at all...

What is the error message ?
Are you sure to have done your development with the same version of the ocx you are redistributing ?

Hi Lioc,

It took a little while, I allways have to reboot to check something under Win 7...

First of all: The program and the setup is two and a half years old and has worked on about hundred customer machines under Win2K and WinXP. So the problem is specific on Vista and Win7.

The exact Error Message is (translated from german by me, compare the screenshot): The component 'gdpicturepro.ocx' or one of its dependecies is not registered correctly: A file is missing or fault.

You also can see the manual registering in the screenshot. All themes to be OK.

I now tried another thing:
I've installed VB6 and tried out to start the in VB-Environment from sourcecode. It works!
Next step i compiled itv again in VB6 under Win7. It don't work...

Maybe another thing may help you: when I programmed it, I had some problems too. Then you had sent me a ressource file named "manifest.res" that I attached in VB to the sourcecode. Afterwards the programm worked.
(But I compiled the EXE with exactly the same VB-source under Win7 and it don't work...)

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Maybe your manifest file is causing the problem ?

Unfortunately we stopped support and development of GdPicture Pro3 before the Windows 7 beta releases.

What I can suggest you is to make a migration to GdPciture Pro 5 (upgrade is free & very easy). GdPicture Pro 5 is 100% certified for Windows 7.

Hi,

Sorry, but that does'nt really help at all.
I just tried to replace the ocx in the source but nothing is equal! The Version 5 has complete different properties and methods. That mean that I am forced to redevelop the whole program!
That will take much time that I don't have, just to keep alive an old thing...

What a pity!

Hi,

I think the migration is your unique option. (can take less than 1 hour).

The Version 5 has complete different properties and methods

No, it's false. Less than 5% of the method has been modified.

That mean that I am forced to redevelop the whole program!

No, you have just to remove the reference to GdPicture Pro 3 and Add a new one to GdPicture Pro 5.
The next step will consist to change some method call but it is very easy job and we can assist you for this one.
