wondows xp + ie6 issues?

Postby acwinter » Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:23 pm

Is anyone aware of any issues when using the signed activex control with windows xp + ie6? We just upgraded to the latest version last week, and have run into a couple of things. We have one group that began getting errors from an unrelated activex control, wherein the control could not find/use some of the files it needed. Upgrading to ie7 fixed their problem. Another group has a problem with a 3-4 second delay in waiting for the page to load. We have not upgraded them to ie7 yet, and would prefer not to. Unfortunately there aren't any errors with this one, once the page does load everything is fine. I have verified through the apache access logs that the browser is checking the version of the gdtwain cab file on page loads, but it is using the cached version (response 304), not redownloading it. Any thoughts?

Hi,

I never heard about these problems. I don't think they are related to GdTwain.

And to be honest, if IE7 is working better that IE6 you should really update it... Less that 20% of users are playing with IE6. See http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

I guess we will have to upgrade to the ie7 browsers then, it is not so terrible to do so. But FYI, The reason I think it is a gdtwain issue is: The problems did not occur before we upgraded to fix the vista compatibility issue, and removing the new gdtwain from the ie6 on xp machines makes the problem go away. Although I have no idea what the problem might be, there does seem to be some confluence of events that leads to the problems we are having. Anyway, thanks for the reply.
