Use GDTwain with new projects

whenever i try to use GDTWain with a new project or copy a project from office to homke i get the same errors. either it can't find the reference to interop or it says there is more than one reference.
i need to know the proper way to set it up for all projects and where should AxInterop.Gdtwain.dll & Interop.Gdtwain.dll files be installed?

i have to delete references and remove the gdtwain from the toolbar.
then rereference and reinstall on the toolbar.
seems kind of clunky.....
