Scanning in Terminal Services

Postby cryo75 » Thu Oct 02, 2008 3:11 pm

Hi,

I'm interested in purchasing a license for GdTwain but have a question.

I have an application that runs in Terminal Services (Win2000 or Win2003 Server). A scanner is connected to a local computer. Can I scan a document locally and have it displayed in my application (remote scane?) using GdTwain?

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi,

I don't really understood your need but I can't tell you that GdTwain can control remote scanners if a driver is provided. Also, you can scan a document and upload it on a distant server through FTP.

Hi,

The driver is installed locally on the user's machine. The application is running on a Windows 2000 server and Terminal Services. The user logs on the TS and his locally installed scanner is mapped into his TS session. He should be able to scan from any application running in TS using his local scanner. I know for sure that Citrix can handle this situation. The problem is that a client doesn't Citrix but only TS. FTP is out of the question.

Ivan

Hi Ivan

I too am trying to achieve the same as you. My application runs on a Terminal Server but the user is in a different country and needs to save a scan from a Scanner attached to his laptop.
Windows Terminal Services cannot cope with it at the moment.

Let me know if and how you resolve your issue. I will appreciate it a lot

Many thanks

Hi,

The only way I see is to create a Virtual Private Network between the Server and the client machine. This done, you have to use a TWAIN scanner which can be used thought network (make a search for TWAIN network on google). Now you will be able to control the scanner on the client side from the server.
