VB6 application installed on Windows7-64bit

Postby wpn » Mon Mar 07, 2011 4:24 pm

Hello,
Our VB6 application uses gdpicturepro5.ocx and works ok on Windows XP. But when we install it on Windows7/64bit and the application want to use the gdpicturepro5.ocx it generates an error telling that the ocx or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered. When I set 'compatibility' to WindowsXP then it works. When I then deselect the Windows XP compatibility it still works! What should I do to get it working without the compatibility setting?

Hi,

I don't get you:

When I set 'compatibility' to WindowsXP then it works. When I then deselect the Windows XP compatibility it still works! What should I do to get it working without the compatibility setting?

Anyway, there is nothing special to do for win 7 64 bit. You have just to register the ocx an deploy optional dlls as explained in the reference guide.

Kind regards,

Hello,

Just included the gdpicturepro5.ocx and the files mentioned in the manual into the installer. The installer runs without problem. Then I start the application and get the message the the gdpicturepro5.ocx is not correctly registered or one of its components is missing. When you click with your right mouse on the .exe file and select properties then you can select the tab 'Compatibility' when you select 'Windows XP' in that tab and click Ok to save the setting. Then when you start the application again it works and the graphics shown by your control are ok. Then I wanted to check what happens when you remove the 'Compatibility' setting, because I thought that then the error message about the ocx should return. But it kept on working! That surprised me.
