DropFile Event and Outlook

Postby Tom Moran » Sun Sep 05, 2010 4:37 pm

Bonjour Loic:

I discovered that the GdViewer FileDrop Event does not get the file/pathname when dragging an image attachment from Outlook. It works well from all other sources, i.e. Windows Explorer, GMail, Live Mail, etc., but not Outlook.

My guess is that Outlook doesn't follow the standard OleDragDrop protocol. Any chance you can code this Event to be able to read Outlook Image Attachment files?

Thanks, Loic!

Thanks, Loic. I, too, don't much care for Outlook. However I have a couple of clients that use it. I appreciate you looking into this issue.

Best regards,

Tom

I don't actually use Outlook and I don't even have it on my computer. However, my client is using the Office 2007 version of Outlook.

After doing some research I did find a Class Module and .TLB module that can get the information from an Outlook Attachment. This will only work if a control has an OLEDragDrop Event since it needs to read the DataObject stream.

I downloaded the files from this site: http://www.mvps.org/emorcillo/en/code/vb6/index.shtml

I'm attaching a small VB6 test project and the olelib.tlb in a zip file. The olelib.tlb needs to be registered with regtlib.exe

I have tested this code successfully on clients machines using both Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. It reads the file names dropped and saves the attachments.

I hope this will help.
